Trocadéro — 7:00 AM · Exceptional light
The golden hour hits the Trocadéro gardens from the east, flooding the esplanade with warm, directional light that sculpts the couple against the Eiffel Tower. At 7:00 AM in September the crowd is minimal — a few joggers, easily removed in post. This is the best window of the entire day for Trocadéro portraits. The crowd-removal retouching requested by the couple was performed for a selection of images.
Avenue Camoëns — Best in the afternoon
Avenue Camoëns is one of the most elegant hidden spots in Paris — a quiet residential street with a perfectly framed Eiffel Tower at the end of the perspective. However, immediately after sunrise the sky is extremely bright in this east-facing corridor, and the Eiffel Tower tends to be overexposed against the backlit sky. I recommend Avenue Camoëns for afternoon sessions (2:00–6:00 PM) when the tower is front-lit and the contrast between building and sky is balanced. The black-and-white conversion partially compensates for the exposure challenge at sunrise.
Pont de Bir-Hakeim — Sunrise works beautifully here
Unlike Avenue Camoëns, Bir-Hakeim Bridge faces a different orientation: the rising sun enters the frame laterally, adding depth and warmth rather than creating overexposure. The wide open space allows natural backlighting and foreground separation. At sunrise, Bir-Hakeim is one of the most photogenic spots in all of Paris — the iron arches, the Eiffel Tower framed through the bridge, and the golden light combine into an effortlessly cinematic composition.
Avenue Camoëns is a rare find: a quiet residential street with the Eiffel Tower perfectly framed at the end. At sunrise the backlit sky creates overexposure challenges — black and white conversion helps. For colour images, plan this spot between 2:00 and 6:00 PM.
Bir-Hakeim Bridge faces a different orientation from Avenue Camoëns: the rising sun enters laterally, adding warmth and depth rather than blowing out the sky. Avoid busy prints or neon colours that compete with the architecture. Bring a second outfit if you'd like different moods between locations. Comfortable shoes are essential — you'll walk 1–3 km across cobblestones.
Sunrise (6–9 AM) is the gold standard — soft light, zero crowds at Trocadéro, Bir-Hakeim and Louvre. Requires an early start but always worth it. Sunset (6–8 PM in summer) is ideal for Pont Alexandre III and the Seine quays — warm golden tones. Midday is workable at covered spots (Palais Royal, Louvre arcades) and north-facing locations.
